New Year Musings

I do not understand people anymore. I read a caption from Twitchy that people were wishing death on former first lady Barbara Bush. Why? I do not remember this lady ever acting in any way other than as a true lady and proper wife. I do not remember her, unlike the dreadful Hillary Clinton, touting political beliefs out on anyone much less spewing hate on anyone. In fact, I do not think this lady has ever said anything remotely negative publicly. In private, I cannot speak of-- "George, pick up your dirty underwear!" -- I am sure she has threatened W a time or two. However, why would someone wish ill will on someone who they do not even know? I may not like Harry Reid, but if he or his wife were in the hospital I would not wish death to become them. How horrible.

I took my daughter over the holiday to see "12 Years a Slave". I have mixed reviews for that. There were far too many nude scenes-- which I understand is what took place, but do you have to show everything? I was trying to make a point to my child (I say that loosely, she's a teenager), but it is overshadowed by embarrassment on both our parts. I could see where the director wanted shots of symbolism in his picture to relay it in an artsy way-- I can appreciate that, but it was done in a way that was grandiose and not flattering. For instance, master accusing the slaves of bringing a poor crop on him therefore the shot prior is caterpillars eating up the cotton. This shot showed that he was just as uneducated as his slaves, just a different kind of ignorant. I also hate to say this, but the bulk of the south were not cruel slave owners. I would wager that the stories of horror- and they are terrible and horrific I will agree- but these are the exceptions, not the rule. Is slavery wrong? YES. No man/woman should ever be considered property. I could be wrong on this. However, from my family stories, I do not believe that I am.

Now, I was to take my LSAT's this weekend and I am furiously working toward delaying this. My entire office has taken up ill with the flu, and my son is sick now too. I feel it is an exceptional chance that I will as well fall ill before the weekend arrives and that is not a test to take on the whim. When I do take it, I want to be at my best. However, LSAC loves to drag their penny-loafers. So, we will indeed see what occurs.

I forgot to make my black eyed peas this year. Drat. Oh well. I did however bake some brie with honey and some french bread with my new kitchen love, the toaster. How ever did I get on before? Anywho-- I created this delectable finger food. I was shunned by my teenagers, but what do they really know anyway? brie, honey and a few dried cranberries.... YUM.  What is wrong with them anyways? Those are two apples that fell way far from the tree.

I have not made New Year's resolutions as I feel they are futile, however, I do resolve to be a better person, parent and servant in the future all in the glory of God. To him I praise for he has blessed me with so much. I do not give him credit for all that I have enough. We do seem to look at the glass half empty as a society so much. I aspire to be the glass half full persona. With that, I bid you adios. I pray your year more prosperous than the last.

Social ambiguity and a funeral

I recently had to say good-bye to my longtime supporter and grandmother. What can you say about a person that meant so much to you? Words failed me at her funeral. However, she was a trailblazer of sorts in her time. She was a divorced, single mother when it was not socially acceptable to be one. She rocked it. Her parents moved from their farm after retiring next door to her sister, so my grandmother moved herself and my mother from one part of the state to the other to be close to relatives. My mom had an uncle and a grandfather, a mother, an aunt and a grandmother to grow up with. My mom wasn't spoiled by any means, however she had necessities and what was important: love. While I agree that the moral fiber of society is mostly eroded, there are some things still in this world that are still good. We have each other. Too bad most do not see it as that way.

I experienced so much love from friends and family this past week and a half that it overshadows the bad and those that turned their back on me when I needed them the most because of "busy lives". What ever happened to thinking of others before yourself? My grandmother was the epitome of thinking of others before herself. Why, if you ever ate at her house, she never sat. She served. She made sure her guests were well taken care of and she was satisfied with that. I remember her taking care of her sister and her brother in law and not stopping to do anything else but that. She had worn a trail between their houses since she was constantly going back and forth.

If there was a need, you need not speak it to her-- she knew and acted without asking. Too many people ask today. Do you need anything? What ever happened to thinking- "if it were me, I'd need this, so I will do my best to provide it" instead of "let me know what you need". Most of us are filled to the brim with pride and do not wish to speak up for fear of the appearance of weakness. Unfortunate that a society that revels in weakness shuns the comment of weakness, is it not?

My grandmother met and fell in love after her divorce. He was catholic and they could not marry. Of course I suppose they could have, but my grandmother would not hear of him having to leave his religion to marry as she was a God fearing woman and respected his beliefs as well as religion. Again, thinking of others before herself. They were together for over twenty years, he coming over to her house every night and eating and spending time until the news came on and he was back home. They treated the others family like family. In fact, his nephew is one of the first people I called once my grandmother passed. He and his family loved her like an aunt. She loved them as an aunt. They are family. I suppose that makes the right kind of blended families possible. Go figure.

Shutdown, Salaries, government and degrees

So Ted Cruz says we are winning. Well, folks, I am a Ted Cruz supporter, however I don't know if I would use the word 'winning' to describe all that has transpired. I understand there are republicans working on a deal and idiocrats are sitting idly by with their arms crossed like a spoiled child. So, those that aren't at the table should donate their paychecks as they are do-nothings in my eyes. So now there is no surprise that there was a shooting around the capitol. Shock. Furloughed worker perhaps? No-- maybe a 'crazy teapartier' or a right wing nut job-- I see the blame coming from media in 3--2--1...... waiting. Now, what they donate paychecks to is a topic of much discussion as well.... I say children's hospitals that receive government aid is the best, but I, I am only one lone voice in this crazy self absorbed world.

On the plus side, I was finally able to graduate this summer..... although the University still has yet to get me my diploma. Perhaps the government issues them???? Thanks to the government I am unable to close on houses since they are USDA and FHA loans. Thanks a lot idiocrats. You sure are digging yourselves a nice one.

Poor Paula Deen

Poor, poor, Paula. She has really stepped in an icky spot of doo. Life simply isn't fair is it. I understand that what she said was over twenty-five years ago! For this she is dropped from everything? I do not know what would happen if things I did twenty-five years ago affected my life today. I suppose some things should such as a robbery charge, but a word? We are seriously reaching for lessons here for those that are successful. How about we solve some real issues in the world like gender discrimination? Now that is a tangible thing!

A great letter from LeBeouf

Very seldom am I pleasantly shocked and surprised by Hollywood. Today is such a day. I read gossip pieces from other outlets. I think everyone does. Most of the time I am asking myself why I clicked on the story. Most of the time I am reading comments (maybe I should just scroll down then, right). Today as I said I was pleasantly surprised with an article on Shia LeBeouf. He was set to act in a play with the wretched Alec Baldwin. I really like Alec, but not as a person. He is a great actor, but not so much as a human. I lost no respect for Baldwin, as I've said I have really little as it is. However, I gained for Shia LeBeouf. What a perfectly written letter on the responsibilities of being a man. Truly, a great stand up effort. Although what actually happened isn't said, it is what happens after the situation that matters most.

Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day! Today, is a special day. This day is the one day that we can eat chocolate and not feel so guilty about it! Well, ok. So there are other holidays that let us do that but this is the one that is for us! I did read that a pope decided to eliminate Valentines day at one point, but it came back again. Those popes. Speaking of which..... who will the next pope be? I have a feeling that it will be Peter, but not sure. Interesting reads are all the writings on the predictions on popes made by Saint Malachy. If you want to tickle your brain for some "hmmmmmm" I suggest you just google it. One thing is for sure, it makes you think. Above all else, have a wonderful Valentines Day!

ObamaCare Upheld

So, now we know why the 16,000 IRS agents were put into this healthcare bill. It was a two fold purpose. The Obomunists knew that this would be contested in court as for it's constitutionality, so he has some pretty nifty writers. They used this "penalty" as a fall back. Hey, if the people doth protest too much, we can argue it is a tax "penalty" under congress' ability to tax if they go after us on the necessary and proper or the commerce clause.

Boo hiss to Judge John Roberts. Ann Coulter was right in 2005 when she called a spade a spade in that he had no record, therefore he could not be trusted to bring conservative values and philosophy to the bench. He is in fact the trojan horse. He is what we hoped he would not be and everything the left hoped he would become. This is why Presidents are so important. While it may be true that they enforce nothing, however the do in that they appoint FOR LIFE those that do.
